  1. The hardest part of my project was definitely timing everything. Once I stopped following the dates on my Project Proposal I was running out of time for the amount of work I wanted to get done. Another challenging part was asking teachers if its okay if i survey their students because I was interupting their class time. Just making sure I evenly distribute my time for each small part of my project is very important i have realized. For example making daily trips to the library to print out enough paper for my survey is something that I had to kepp up on because having enough papers for classes at all times was important incase i had an opportunity in betweeen classes.

    1. Heather, can you elaborate more on your struggles? Maybe a little more description or even how you could have dealt with the struggles looking back now? I will hold off on responding/grading your blog until you do that.

    2. I think the hardest part of my project has been learning to come out of my shell. I have difficulty talking to people so the whole planning process was a challenge for me. I had to make multiple phone calls to arrange fields and dates and I was extremely nervous. At times I would hesitate to make calls and resort to email. I knew this was not best for my project. I would often stutter on the phone and with face to face conversations. I had so many ideas and I just couldn’t organize my words and it would come out as a bunch of jumbles. Also I was intimidated by some of the people I spoke to. I am not really used to people being rude to me so when I came across someone that was during the process, I was a little taken back. It was to the point where I wanted to hang up the phone but I knew that would make me just as bad. Overall I think that it was good I had to face this obstacle. It not only made my communication skills better but it helped me experience something new.

    3. The hardest part of my project was determining the guidelines and restrictions for my event. Before I was able to plan it I needed to determine several different things. Deciding on the number of people to invite to the event and where and when to hold the event both rose a huge obstacle. Originally I planned on extending the invite only to people who had signed up on my Relay For Life team but due to prior committments and not full interest, I decided to extend the list. I told my teammates that they could bring people to be in their Scavenger Hunt groups. I also invited more of my friends who aren't participating in Relay For Life, but were interested in doing the Scavenger Hunt and wanted to join. Deciding where and when was a challenge to because I did not want it to be in a large enough location where groups would have to drive. I also didn't know when to have it because I wasn't sure when students on Vassar campus would be leaving so I pushed my date up to minimize that issue. I also wasn't sure what time of day to hold it until I administered my poll and found that most people preferred night time. These obstacles were all fixable and wight he help of my poll, Mrs. Bellino, and class time to organize, I was able to solve all of these issues.

    4. Kim,
I loved your project idea! I hate talking on the phone too so I understand where you're coming from. I'm glad this project helped you come out of your shell!

    5. Carly,
I couldn't reply directly under your blog because I think you linked it to Heather's. No problem- here's my comments:

I am so glad that you chose this project in the end. Knowing you, I think it was a perfect fit. You did a great job creating the entire project, a somewhat daunting assignment that you appeared to handle with great ease. I can't wait to hear about it during your project presentation. Great job!

    6. Kim,
I'm so proud of you for conquering your fear of speaking to new people. You really went above and beyond with your project, contacting more and more people to try and solicit volunteers, participants and even a field to work with. This is a skill that you will need in the future and I think that this experience can only help you. You did an amazing job and I know that those who participated are happy that you put in all the effort that you did. Great job!

  2. There were only a few things that I thought were hard when it came to my project. I think the hardest part of my project was tilling the ground and waiting for the right weather in order to do this. I wanted the ground obviously to be nice and soft. When I tilled the ground I did not own a tiller. I had to use rakes and shovels in order for me to till 6-8 inches into the ground. This became very hard for me because it was a lot of laboring and effort that I had to put in for my project. The following day when I woke up I could barely get out of bed because I was really sore The day it came to tilling the ground it was very hot out and humid. This meant for me that the soil after I tilled the ground was very dry so it would be difficult for me to plant away! Fortunately Habitat for Humanity provided me with 6 bags of dry soil to help me with curing the dry soil. I was very fortunate for this to happen or I wouldn't of probably had a project. Even though I had these struggles with my project it is something I planned out by myself and performed for a person in my community who was in need. Now, I am very fortunate to be apart of this wonderful organization which is Habitat for Humanity.

I think it is awesome how dedicated you are to your project. It sounds like it is something you are really interested it. I like how you wanted to make sure everything was perfect. You got really lucky that they provided you with the necessary soil. Congratulations on completing your project and good luck in the future with the organization!

  3. To be honest, the hardest part of my project was just figuring out a date because it took me a while to get a hold of my brother's teacher. I think the next hardest thing was probably figuring out what I was going to do for my project (At the very beginning), because I had a lot of ideas regarding what I was going to do, and I had a lot of different topics. In the end I narrowed it down to nutrition. I was really nervous about doing the presentation too, so I got Tristan to agree to do the project with me. He's also going to help me make the healthy variation of a commonly loved junk food. Actually, apart from finding a date, I think another really hard thing I encountered was making my actual slide show. I feel like that contributed a lot to the difficulty of this project because since I'm presenting this to third graders, I was caught up in whether or not i should use a lot of words. But in the end I settled for a fair amount of words along with a lot of images.

    1. Mahiya,
I think that you did a great job setting up your project. Working with another school setting up a date can be the hardest part of this type of project and I think that you worked hard to be flexible. As for your slide show, when I reviewed it with you I think you were very open to suggestions and did a great job. Keep it up!

  4. Probably the hardest part of my project was keeping in contact with the two people that are helping me do this project. I have used email and I leave them messages, but they are so busy sometimes that they don't respond until about two or three days later. At one point, I didn't hear from either of them for close to a week. I've recently fixed that. I'm meeting with Mrs. Marino, the social worker at Titusville, on Wednesday May 14 to work out a few things and finally decide on a date for the presentation. I'm hoping to get Monday May 19 as the date. I'm also going to call the speaker, Mrs. Minkowitz and see if there are any changes she wants to make to the survey and tell her how long the the presentation has to be. The hardest part of this project is about to be over and I can focus on getting everything ready for the speaker and the class she'll be speaking to.

    1. Project so far:

As of now I am mostly done with my project. I have had my donation drive and I have contacted multiple people to try to get more toys donated. Not much luck. Currently I have made little half sheets describing my project and asking for donations set up with my contact information. Sometime next week I will be cutting them up and putting them in school staff mailboxes to see if I get anymore. The "hardest" part of this project as been doing this blog. It doesn't work on my phone I have an extremely busy schedule and I'm never home to write it up on an actual computer. It was easier before to just use gmail instead of trying to get the blog app to work or having to download google chrome app and trying to blog through that. Other than that I have no major complaints about the project. Within the next two weeks I should be putting together the few donations I have and giving them to my contact at Saint Francis for the children. On the upside 22 days left of high school!

    2. CJ,
Great job sticking with your project (and blogging). I definitely have some research to do with ways that will work for both the student and the teacher in regards to reflections and comments. Thank you for being so patient. As for your donation drive, I think the awareness that you brought to the need for such toys is not something to be overlooked. You did a great job and should be proud of your work.

    3. Andrew,
As I mentioned to other students, getting in contact and working out a date/time for presentations in other schools is probably the hardest part of a project like yours (if you check the blogs, you are not the only person who had issues with this). I think you did a great job tackling this issue and used your time and resources wisely. Great job buddy!

  5. The hardest part of my project was coming out of my shell. I had to contact many people in order to have a successful project. I needed 10 volunteers and didn't know who to ask because I have many DIFFERENT friend groups that I didn't know who would get along and who wouldn't. Luckily everyone got along and made new friends! Getting a definite yes from volunteers was really difficult because of AP's, school work and sports. No one knew if they would be able to make my project until the day of and that day. It was really stressful for me because I get nervous over small things, and that was huge. I was afraid no one was going to show up. Thankfully everyone did show up and it was great! Another thing that was stressful was trying to figure out what teenagers 16-18 could do because Habitat doesn't allow people in that age group to use power tools. When we were at the build site, there were so many of us that we got the job done in such a short amount of time! Habitat didn't have that much we could do that day. But after we left everyone felt like such a help and wanted to come back! Overall I think my project went really well and there weren't that many huge obstacles that got in the way, it was mostly just nerves.

    2. Paige,
I'm so proud of you for overcoming your fears. You were awesome. To think that you even presented your project to the class to solicit volunteers really speaks volumes for how far you have come. You have helped raise awareness for the charity organization and have hopefully paved the way for more students to become involved. Great job buddy!

  6. The hardest part of my project so far would have to be the fact that I cannot get to the middle school directly in order to drop off my survey and pick them up. I tried to send them through the school but for some reason Mrs. Dyke never received them. This caused me to have to make another 30 copies and find some way to get them to her. I had to ask my neighbor if she would be willing to give it to the teacher. She was willing to do it but I don’t see her all the time to ask her to pick it up. The problem is that if the school had some messenger system in between school that worked more efficiently it would help out a lot. The next hardest part of my project was that my pictures from my camera the Mac computers at school don’t like the way they are formatted so I could have had it all done today but instead I have to sort out the pictures and wait for when we have free again in order to finish the video. Then back to the problem of getting it to the teacher.

Hang in there. The technology stuff gives me a headache as well but stick with it, we will figure out a way. I have free tomorrow during 3rd period so if you need my help let me know. It will work out, I know it.

  7. For me the hardest part of the project was getting permission at first. I contacted the principal at Overlook and she agreed with allowing me to do my project but it took a while for her to set up dates which was stressful for me because I was worried it would not work out. After days of waiting I called the main office and the secretary was a big help. After speaking with the secretary I met with the principal a few days later and began my project. I was so glad it was working out and I think my project turned out good overall. The children really seemed to enjoy it, which was a big relief. Personally for my project timing wasn't an issue since it consisted of doing it over multiple days, and since I initiated the project itself pretty early. Now I just need to gather all the evidence and I should be done with that soon with the help of the elementary school social worker.

Great job Enxhi! I am so proud of your continued efforts with this project. You have really done a great job committing to your project and making sure that you are there for your students. I can just imagine how much of an impact you are having on those students. Great job!

  8. The hardest part of my project was definitely getting people to help me make the dolls. I had a lot of people that wanted to help me but couldn't because they didn't know how to sew. To help solve this I broke the process into parts. I would send fabric to people who did not know how to sew so they could trace the patterns onto the fabric and cut it out. Once they returned it to me I would find someone who did know how to sew and give it to them and then they would give me back the dolls so I could stuff them to complete them. Before I did this project I didn't know how to sew but eventually I knew I had to teach myself or I wasn't going to complete my project on time.I am extremely thankful to every one who helped me at some point with this project! Even though it was stressful, I really enjoyed this project because it allowed me to do something I am really passionate about and make a difference in the lives of others.

    1. Briana, I think it's awesome that you went to lengths to teach yourself how to sew and that you solved the problem of other people not knowing how to sew as well. I think your project is really thoughtful and I'm sure the kids will love the dolls!

    2. Briana,
Great job. I'm glad that you learned an important skill in this process (sewing). You really did a great job controlling your project and attending to the various issues, I commend you on your efforts. I can't wait to hear how it turned out and see what an actual surgi doll looks like. Great job!

  9. The hardest part of the project for me was probably motivating myself to get things done. This is mostly due in part with the fact that communicating with people is also a challenge I face. It took a lot of effort for me to talk with the person I interviewed and to collaborate with Mr. Ouimet and Mr. Sheedy, all of whom helped me with my project tremendously. I would not have been able to complete my project without them, I realize. I also have come to the conclusion that there is nothing to fear when it comes to the subject of communication. My project would probably have been finished by now if I weren't so reluctant to talk to people, but I did finish all of the major tasks anyway, and all I have left is the post-survey. I'm grateful for the way the project is set up; otherwise my project would have been very unsuccessful.
